Mnet (acronym of Music Network) is a music television and youth-oriented channel in South Korea owned by CJ E&M, a division of CJ Group.
The CJ E&M Center Studio located in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul is the broadcast and recording center of many Mnet programs with a studio audience, namely the live weekly music show M! Countdown. It is also the venue for live performances in survival shows such as Unpretty Rapstar, Sixteen, Produce 101 (seasons one and two) and Idol School The global website named for Mnet Global changed to MWave in April 2013. Other sites from Mnet are not affected with the change.

History
- 1993 : Music Network was established, making it South Korea's first cable TV channel. It was founded by Cho Ha-young, owner of Young Distribution.
- 1994-09-16 : Contract made with MTV to broadcast the latter's programmes in South Korea (3 hours)
- 1995-05-26 : Music-centralized cable show 'Mnet' launched (16 hours a day)
- 1996-11-21 : 24-hour broadcasting made available
- 1997-07-28 : Cheil Jedang Group acquired the network from Young Distribution.
- 1998-02-12 : Mnet becomes the first music channel to start online broadcasting.
- 1999-11-07 : 1st Mnet Award for Video Music
- 2001-12-14 : Contract with MTV was terminated; Mnet programmes began broadcasting 24-hours.
- 2004: Mnet Music Video Festival to co-host with then-sister channel KMTV
- 2004-04-08 : Programme 'M! Countdown' made its debut.
- 2005 : Performed 5.1 surround service for the first time as a music channel
- 2005-09-23 : Mnet online music website established
- 2006-11-25 : Mnet · KM Music Video Festival is changed to Mnet KM Music Festival
- 2006-12-09 : Mnet Japan established
- 2007-08-21 : 1st 20's Choice Awards
- 2009-07-24 : 'Superstar K' competition series in which singers audition to get on the show.
- 2009-11-21 : The 1st Mnet Asian Music Awards
- 2010-07-18 : 'Superstar K Season 2' becomes the most viewed/rated cable programme. (Rating was 18.1%.)
- 2012-06-23 : 'Show Me The Money', a South Korean rap competition made for TV, premiered. The show has grown in popularity and it is credited with increasing the Korean public's interest in hip hop.
- 2013-05-17 : First TV Drama Aired ('Monstar')
- 2014-02-01 : Mnet became South Korea's first Full HD TV channel.
- 2014-07-14 : 'M! Countdown' celebrated its 10th anniversary.
- 2015 : Mnet celebrated its 20th anniversary. (Note: The first two years of the network as Music Network were not counted.)
- 2015-01-29 : Mnet launched 'Unpretty Rapstar', a program focusing on female rappers. The show is a spin-off of 'Show Me the Money'.
- 2015-02-26 : Programme 'I Can See Your Voice' made its debut. Due to the show's wide success and popularity, international versions have been made in Bulgaria, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.
- 2016-01-22 : 'Produce 101', the biggest reality girl group survival show in the world, premiered on Mnet. It plans on making a unit girl group by choosing members from a pool of 101 trainees from 46 entertainment companies. The show has the biggest budget among all shows produced by Mnet at about four billion won (approximately $3.4 million).
